What exactly does a doula do?

A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support to a birthing mother and her partner before, during, and after birth. Unlike medical providers such as OBs or midwives, a doula does not perform clinical tasks or make decisions about your care—instead, we’re here purely to support you and your (and your partner’s!) comfort and birth experience.

In the birth setting, where nurses may rotate and doctors arrive only for the delivery, your doula is the constant, calming presence—offering soothing touch, acupressure, position suggestions, and gentle affirmations of your power and agency.

For partners, a doula provides guidance and reassurance, helping them feel confident, involved, and supported too. After all, birth is often a totally new experience for them as well! As doulas, we never “replace” the partner. Instead, we help them shine and fully step into their new role. Together, we become a grounded, informed, empowered birth team.

Beyond the more subjective benefits to a doula’s support, studies have shown that continuous doula support is linked to:

  • 39% reduction in the risk of Cesarean

  • 15% increase in the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth

  • Shorter labors by an average of 41 minutes

  • Reduced use of epidurals, Pitocin, and other interventions

  • Higher satisfaction with the birth experience—for both mother and partner

As Dr. John Kennell once said, “if doulas were a drug, it would be unethical not to use it.”

Doula Services

Signature Package

Investment: $2400

I offer one package, and it’s worth every penny. Let’s get into the details.

I believe that the quality of your connection with those surrounding you at your birth makes ALL the difference in the world. We are, after all, mammals, and while having a mostly stranger walk into the room while you’re in your most vulnerable state and proclaim that they are there to help is a nice gesture, to our bodies and nervous systems, they are “new” and therefore at some deep subconscious level, a potential threat.

That said, I want the mamas I work with to feel totally and utterly comfortable with me by the time delivery day arrives, and that’s why I insist on making sure we have ample time to develop a relationship to ensure the loveliest and most aligned birth experience possible.

Let’s dive into the details of what’s included in this package.

1. Three in-person prenatal visits (one hour each)

During these sessions we will get to know each other, develop your birth plan and preferences, and acclimate your nervous system to my presence, touch, and voice. We may explore the following during our time:

  • Reflexology

  • Reiki

  • Magnetic Vibration therapy

  • Ear seeding

  • Guided meditations

  • Pain management exercises

2. Unlimited text support pre- and post-birth

I want you to feel totally free to text me whenever, knowing that a caring and knowledgeable resource is available to you to reassure you and answer any questions you have during pregnancy or early postpartum. I may not always be able to answer immediately (unless, of course we’re on labor watch!), but I am only ever a text away.

I take only one doula client per month so that I have the ability to spoil each and every client with the level of dedicated care you deserve.

3. Continuous labor support

Once labor is underway, I will be by your side to support you and your partner in any way needed. That could be providing physical support, setting the mood in your room, helping with non-medical pain management, bringing in props (I <3 peanut balls), holding boundaries with relatives, bringing you and your partner snacks, taking photos and video, and just generally being a source of reassurance and calm, no matter how your birth unfolds.

More on props. I LOVE to stay on top of the latest gadget trends to help keep you comfortable and progressing during labor, so some of the things I will have available for your use include:

  • Rebozo

  • TENS unit

  • Aromatherapy kit

  • Peanut ball, CUB seat, yoga ball

  • Birth sling

  • Massage gun

  • Birth comb

  • Ear seeding

4. Three postpartum visits (2 hours each)

Once your baby arrives, I’ll support you in your postpartum recovery and adjustment to motherhood. These visits include:

  • Practical support like meal prep, pump part washing, or laundry (your comfort is key!)

  • Help with breastfeeding, pumping, baby-wearing, and newborn care

  • Dedicated time to process your birth experience and share your birth story to answer the question “how do I want to remember this experience?”.

  • Referrals for additional resources (e.g., breastfeeding consultants, mental health support, pelvic floor recovery)
